Charity Car Show

First Show is a Gas!

Car Show Icon.JPGThe Kiwanis Club of Germantown has several established fundraisers each year to raise funds that are donated to support a number of local children's charities and organizations. This year the club challenged its members to find new ways to give back to the community while at the same time contributing to the mission of supporting children. One such new project was the first year Germantown Kiwanis Charity Car Show which was held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at The Shops of Forest Hill, 3180 Village Shops Drive in Germantown, TN.

There were 71 cars that entered the show and participants proudly displayed cars ranging in age from 101 years old to cars less than a year old. The event was free to the public.
Some highlighted vehicles in the show included a 1909 Hudson Model 20 owned by Geoff and Louis Wilson; a 1932 Ford owned by Bill Powell; a 1935 Chevy Pickup owned by Tom Mathenson; a 1954 Kaiser Darrin owned by Don and Marti Szewczy;; a 1956 Chrysler Imperial owned by Fritz Crombie; a 1966 Morgan 4+4 owned by Chris and Amanda Wilson; a 1966 Sunbeam Tiger Roadster owned by Gordon Gold; and a 1988 Ferrari 328 GTS owned by Kevin Hale.

The Mid-South Mustang Club was well represented with around a dozen members showing Mustangs ranging from 1966 to current day recent models.  The youngest car owner showing was 16 year old Maverich Radford with his 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback.  Gregg Dunkin may have been the newest owner with his 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 which he just acquired last week.

The Germantown Police Department was honored with a trophy for their state-of -the -art SWAT vehicle which was on display. The Mayor's Trophy was awarded to Steve Rutter for his 1955 Chevrolet 210 2-door sedan. The People's Choice Award went to C. J. Pickering for his 1959 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible. The day closed out with a trophy presentation to the participants.

A Special Thanks to Sponsors

Event organizer, Bill Griffin, was very pleased with the turnout and noted that everyone from the Kiwanis members working the show, to the participants and the viewing public had a great time. Griffin wanted to be sure and thank the show Chrome Sponsors for their contributions to making the show a first year success: Alphagraphics; Ballinger's Full Service Shell; Baptist Rehabilitation Germantown; Bigfish Creative; Christian Brothers Automotive; Crye-Leike Realtors; DKE Home Projects; Dunkin Donuts; Edward Jones (Stephen Jackson); Family Medicine Partners; First Tennessee Bank; Madonna Learning Center; Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital and Soul Fish Café. Special thanks go to Boyle Investment Company and the Shops of Forest Hill merchants for the use of the property and the Parks and Recreation Division of the City of Germantown for their support.

With the success of the show this year, Griffin was confident that the show will be even bigger and better next year.
