Who are we?
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.We are a club of volunteers dedicated to helping children in our community. The Kiwanis Club of Germantown was formed on November 1, 1963. The Club has approximately 70 members.
Germantown Kiwanis The Kiwanis Club of Germantown was formed on November 1, 1963. The Kiwanis Clubs of East Memphis and Memphis were the sponsoring clubs. Charter Night was held on Wednesday, December 11, 1963 at the Colonial Country Club. The Club's first president was attorney Bruce Law. The only charter member currently in the club is Boyd Maize.
The Club is one of ten Kiwanis clubs in the Memphis Area (Division 1C), and is second in size only to the Memphis Club. The Club is currently growing and approaching 70 in membership.
Our membership has included a number of lieutenant governors, including current members Norman Stringer, Bill Austin, Frank Hadaway, E. Sewell Dunkin, Bob Nichols, Russ Adsit, David Pickler, Allyson Avera and current Lieutenant Governor Joe Keohane.
The weekly club meeting consists of an excellent buffet breakfast, good fellowship, and entertaining and informative, programs. One of the club highlights is the annual Club December Holiday Party in which members spouses participate.
Kiwanis sponsors informative presentations from area civic leaders and subject matter experts.

"Ike" Brown
At the Club meeting on February 4th, the Kiwanis Club of Germantown inducted "Ike" Brown into Kiwanis membership. Pictured at the induction are (l to r): Kiwanis President Randy Lawson, Kiwanis Lt. The club meets each Thursday at 7 a.m. in the Pickering Center for a buffet breakfast and program.

The Mid-Year Conference for Region I - The WestTenn Region - will be held on Saturday, March 6th at Arlington High School, located 5475 Airline Road, in Arlington, Tenn.
All Kiwanians are invited and encouraged to attend. We need to know how many are coming - so the deadline to register at $30 per person is this weekend, last weekend in Febuary. Please share this information with others in your club - and send in your registration form (see attachment - or available on-line at www.lamisstenn.org) by Saturday!
Young Children: Priority One
The Kiwanis Club of Germantown has presented Madonna Learning Center with a check for $2,000 in keeping with the Kiwanis program: Young Children:Priority One.The club also honors students at Madonna each month with the Terrific Kids program.
Lifesaver and Hero Award
The Kiwanis Club of Germantown has honored Germantown resident Brian Coblentz with its "Lifesaver and Hero Award". Mr. Coblentz aided in the rescue of 3 year old Heather Wolff in January when the toddler, sledding down a steep embankment, found herself on the thin ice of the lake at Howard McVay Park. As Heather attempted to walk off the ice, it broke leaving her propped up by her arms. Mr. Coblentz was driving by with his family when he saw what happened. He plunged into the lake and lifted Heather out of the ice hole.The award was presented by Kiwanis Immediate Past President Sam Goff. First Show is a Gas!
There were 71 cars that entered the show and participants proudly displayed cars ranging in age from 101 years old to cars less than a year old. The event was free to the public. Some highlighted vehicles in the show included a 1909 Hudson Model 20 owned by Geoff and Louis Wilson; a 1932 Ford owned by Bill Powell; a 1935 Chevy Pickup owned by Tom Mathenson; a 1954 Kaiser Darrin owned by Don and Marti Szewczy;; a 1956 Chrysler Imperial owned by Fritz Crombie; a 1966 Morgan 4+4 owned by Chris and Amanda Wilson; a 1966 Sunbeam Tiger Roadster owned by Gordon Gold; and a 1988 Ferrari 328 GTS owned by Kevin Hale.The Mid-South Mustang Club was well represented with around a dozen members showing Mustangs ranging from 1966 to current day recent models. The youngest car owner showing was 16 year old Maverich Radford with his 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback. Gregg Dunkin may have been the newest owner with his 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 which he just acquired last week. The Germantown Police Department was honored with a trophy for their state-of -the -art SWAT vehicle which was on display. The Mayor's Trophy was awarded to Steve Rutter for his 1955 Chevrolet 210 2-door sedan. The People's Choice Award went to C. J. Pickering for his 1959 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible. The day closed out with a trophy presentation to the participants.A Special Thanks to SponsorsEvent organizer, Bill Griffin, was very pleased with the turnout and noted that everyone from the Kiwanis members working the show, to the participants and the viewing public had a great time.
